I have a sweet FJ vid but I dont want to post it and have to worry about it being all over the internet! Is it better to just take a pic or something? Is there any way to post a clip and make it so it is not downloadable? What are my options here? Also was wondering what the best way to edit videos to make them smaller or more anonymous? Any help would be great thanks!

To both points, no matter how secure you make something, someone will find a way to copy it. If you don't want it copied, then you shouldn't post it online.

What Patrick said. Once you put something--anything--online, it's out of your hands, and all the copy-protection you put on it will not stop persistent people from taking/downloading it.

Such as with Flickr; they have an option that lets uploaders disable right-click saving of their photos, but I can think of at least two ways around that.

I noticed that there are times where a video is at least difficult to just out right copy. Like at least you cant right click on it etc. What type of file is that? Also, is there a way to make the video lower quality or at least smaller so it is a bit more discreet?

Many video files on You Tube and such are .flv format based on Adobe's Flash Player. It requires special software to decode them for viewing locally. There are numerous options for downloading and viewing these days I am afraid.

That said (and as mentioned) the best protection is not to share it on the Web.

Yep, it's all too easy to copy anything these days. So called "protections" are nothing more than mere obstacles, delaying the time it takes to copy the files. Nothing is truly protected.

I suppose you could post stills from the videos instead if you really wanted?

Impossible. If it can be viewed on the web, it can be copied. Multi-million dollar movie industries struggle with this problem also [Wink]

Watermark it. Making it lower quality will just be worse for those who buy your clip and will discourage them.

The free RealPlayer software adds a component/add on to browsers that lets you download videos in flv format right off YouTube and YouPorn. Makes it cake.

You would think a method would have been developed to safeguard pics videos music etc. So many people would use that type of software it would be very profitable. I'm not even looking to make money etc. I can't imagine how annoying it would be for original work to be copied without permission. All it does is destroy the market. Some of the bigger sites like footfetishdaily seem to do a decent job protecting videos for a while.

It is impossible to block. You can get screen recorders that bypass any security. And then even if the OS magically blocks it in the future (DRM) then a HD camera pointed at a good display will skip that too.

So if you're not planning on making any money off it why are you so against people copying and downloading it? If you were a company, yeah, but you're not.

Not about the money just privacy. No faces really but just the idea that it could get copied x amount of times is a little creepy. Hmm I dunno

If you value privacy then keep it private, simple solution really.
