I'm thinking about buying a new camera.

I've done a bit of research and am considering the Nikon 3200. It's in my price range and is an entry level DSLR.

Does anyone have some advice or could recommend a DSLR?

Thanks.

For entry level and ease of operation, you might want to consider the Canon Rebel series. The format is much easier for a beginner to understand as you progress with knowledge of F-stops,ISO's and Shutter speeds with well laid out buttons unlike Nikon IMO..

I use a Nikon D3200 and I love it. Used it for over a year now. I will admit that the button layout isn't the best, but it's great otherwise.

That's the exact camera I've been using for the last five years my brother, and zero complaints here. Some people get really hung up on getting the fanciest, and most expensive gear they can find, and that's OK, but you can do a lot with an entry lever DSLR if you have the vision...

Canon rebels have barely improved since the first model in 2003: http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Canon-EOS-1200D-versus-Canon-EOS-1100D-versus-Canon-EOS-1000D___940_693_270

Nikon D3200 scores quite a bit better: http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Nikon/D3200

Seems there's more votes in favor than against the Nikon. And it's not that expensive.

This is very true, you have to remember a good camera is essential but it can only do it's part if the lighting etc is also to the same standard [Smile]

Like with EVERYTHING else in this world from cars, to toothbrushes...go with whatever fits YOU. Go to Fry's or Best Buy and test all of them out before you buy.

At first I was thinking about the Canon 100D, and then splashing out extra for the 700D. However, in reviews the Nikon 3200 beats them out, and is only $100 more than the Canon 100D.

Do you use it for video as well?

I shoot with Olympus gear, but I've heard good things about the D3200. If you can get a one or two lens kit, you'll have enough to start with. Happy shooting! [Thumbs Up]

Yes, I shoot my videos with it as well. I set the camera at 1080p with 30FPS, although it can do 24FPS at 1080p also, or you can drop to 720p, but the framerate doubles to 60FPS.
