The world has lost a comic legend today as George Carlin passed away at the age of 71. He was my favorite comic of all time and he will be sorely missed.

This was just posted on Yahoo! and is from the Associated Press.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - A publicist for George Carlin says the legendary comedian has died of heart failure at a hospital in Santa Monica, Calif.

Jeff Abraham says Carlin went into St. John's Health Center on Sunday afternoon, complaining of chest pain. Carlin died at 5:55 p.m. PDT. He was 71.

Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. It was announced Tuesday that Carlin was being awarded the 11th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

The dean of counterculture comedians, Carlin constantly pushed the envelop with his jokes, particularly with a routine called "The Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV."

Man, RIP for real George Carlin. He was simply one of the greatest comedians ever. A true loss for everyone, the world becomes a significantly less funny, less welcoming place without that great man's wit.

I'm a major fan of Carlin's comedy -- both audio, video, and his books. I'm in mourning; the world will miss him.

Yeah I woke up hear about his death on the news. I was thinking about him the otherday.

Nobody will ever be able to copy his style of making people laugh. I grew up seeing him on tv.

HBO SHOWTIME when my parents wasnt around.

George will be missed dearly.

Yes i will sorely miss him as the comics of today do not compare to his humor. He may not be a good sitcom guy but his stand up was a class act and i never even got to see a show. So i guess i will have to watch the HBO reruns.

My favorite also. Truly an original mind. He'll be missed greatly. His delivery and facial expressions... his wit. His social commentary. Everything. I already miss him!

Ok, I have one George Carlin memory I have to share. The first time I heard any of his material was back in 1974 in my next door neighbor's garage. I was 6 years old and the other guys were older probably 12 and had one of Carlin's albums they put on the turntable. The routine came on:

"You know what my grandfather used to say to me? 'I'm going upstairs to fuck your grandma!' He wasn't going to bullshit no four year old!"

I remember going home and repeating that to my mom word for word. I didn't know any curse words at that time and had NO clue what it meant whatsoever. I just knew the boys were laughing their asses off and I thought my mom would probably think it was funny too.

Next thing I know my mom walks next door for a few minutes and then comes back and I get sent to my room. The next day I went back over to my neighbor's house and asked if I could hear the record again. They declined with fear in their eyes and sent me home!

As the years went on I used to watch all the HBO specials and listen to albums like Class Clown and AM&FM. Mom wasn't able to protect me forever! [Laugh]

A Tribute To "The Hippy Dippy Weatherman"

George Carlin passed away on June 22, 2008 at the age of 71.

Mr. Carlin was a comedic genius, never afraid to explore new limits or push the envelope. He was able to make us laugh and make us think at the same time.

I never met the man or was I ever at any of his live shows. Yet, I still feel as though I've lost a good friend. I will always treasure my collection of his albums- AM & FM, Class clown, Occupation-Foole, Toledo Window box and many others.

Thanks for the laughs. R.I.P.
