I've been a fan since '82. I've seen them live about 7 times starting on the Somewhere in Time tour back in '86 and then earlier this year in Dallas at the launch of the tour for Final Frontier.
Reason for three ax men is after Adrian left the band they brought in Gers to fill his spot. Then back in '99 when Bruce and Adrian both rejoined Gers stayed on since he had been a member for almost 10 years. As far as the contribution there is absolutely nil. They all play the same melody and then each takes turns doing a solo in almost every damn song. Meaning almost every new song lasts from 6 to 8 minutes or longer.
I still enjoy their music, but its taken quite a different path now from when they were a young and coming up band.

That's the way my side of the dorm room looked when I was in college way back in '86. My roommate was the exact polar opposite with Duran Duran and a-ha posters on his side of the room. Music selection was a constant battle, but I owned the stereo and usually won out.
