Honestly, it depends on the footwear. I have a pair of flat black baby doll shoes that STINK! Flip flops don't hold much of a stench though. My sneakers were smelling pretty nasty after this jog...

It's amazing that sometimes they will have a strong stench, and most often they have this sweet yet putrid smell. Even I like the sweet smell, myself.
