Is she actually from Spain? If so, that would actually explain the European look. A lot of people use the terms "Spanish" and "Hispanic" or "Latino" interchangeably, but only people from Spain are "Spanish" or "Spaniards" - the other terms refer to people from Spanish speaking countries, usually with at least some Spanish heritage to them.
The confusing part to some is that there are some Latin Americans who are of European heritage, and thus look "white", but if they're born in a place like Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, etc. they are considered Hispanic or Latino. Same applies to Hispanic that look African or "Black" - if they are born in Latin America, they're one of us...
