For the first time in my life, I went out to shoot photos with the expressed intention of snapping some pretty feet!
A little bit about me. I'm 27 and I enjoy photography. I sometimes dream about starting a website or clips store, but lack of disposable income and some social anxiety and confidence issues have held me back.
I live in a Michigan college town, and so naturally, I went over to the campus side of town. It was an 80 degree day and Easter weekend, so I figured there would be lots of pretty girls walking around, but campus was a bit of a ghost town and lots of people seemed to have left town to spend the weekend with family.
That being said, there still were some students around! I started walking, taking photos of some interesting things on the way, and about 25 minutes in, I spotted two cute girls a few hundred feet away laying out on the grass by this pond!
I've never done a cold approach with the intent of photographing feet before, so I was obviously pretty nervous. But I forced myself to walk right up to them and smile and say hi. And guess what?
They both immediately smiled back and started talking to me. They were two cute freshmen (a blonde and a redhead) and we simply shot the shit and chatted about all kinds of stuff for about 15 minutes.
That's when I told them that I was working a photo series focused on feet. They were slightly reluctant at first, but I kept everything lighthearted and simply told them the truth: I like feet and I'd like to start photographing feet more often.
And they were cool with it!
I haven't done final edits on this set, but I quickly did some minor Lightroom adjustments. Here are a few pics!
The girl on the left, who we'll call Sarah, is a tall blonde with blue eyes and has size 9-10 feet. They are shaped exactly the way I love! Slender with long toes. Her feet were pretty smooth, but she was a runner and her soles had some peeling skin that she was self-conscious about. Obviously I tried to assuage her fears and let her know that her feet were quite lovely!
The girl on the right, we'll call Mandy, is about average height and a cute redhead. Her feet are about size 7.5-8. Her toes are shorter and she has wide, pink soles! Not quite my style, but she was super cute and out of the two, seemed to be most intrigued by the prospect of showing off her feet. She even told me, "Hope you find many more foot models!" as I walked away!
Not everything was perfect and there were definitely some things I'd like to improve upon. There was a bit of residual shame in a couple of the things I said near the end of the shoot. I also froze when trying to come up with poses because I was slightly overwhelmed. My nerves and fear of rejection still definitely can get the best of me, and I figure it'll take a few more times until I get more comfortable with the cold approach.
But I'd say I did a pretty good job for my first try. And I'm proud that I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I give myself a B-.

The feet on the left are more my cup of tea. Congrats on the cold approach. Many of us foot guys are too reluctant and chicken out, missing many good opportunities and feet. Keep up the good work.

Hell yeah, you did great mustering up the confidence and courage. There's actually photographers out there who've been working for years but have never had the courage and confidence to do what you just did. Keep with the upward climb!

i wouldn't call it missing out on good opportunities, just missing out on opportunities to creep people out and end up as some asshole y'all shame because he couldn't get a lady to show their feet in 5 seconds or less.

Don't feel bad. Asking a strange lady to show you her feet isn't normal.sonyhay makes you normal..lol. Sometimes you can feel when it's the right girl to ask.
