I think there were two mods that I used... there was one that made the water clear, so if you swam in it or walked by a lake, you could see down to the bottom.: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3763
Then there was one that made it so the guards were not all-knowing. If you were hidden and picked a lock or stole something, the guards wouldn't automatically know. This made the game better for thieves. :http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=129

If you want more fun, make sure you have the Shivering Isles as well. It opens up a whole new zone, tons of new gear and made the game less boring, I think.

I just started wandering around Skyrim myself...I fear I may never stop. I've barely played a few hours and I can already feel myself getting really addicted. It's gonna have to be a secondary game for me though, because I have a considerable backlog to get through

hah, I understand. I just introduced oblivion to a wow addict and she is taking a few minutes each week to play some oblivion. I don't want her to take time away from her paid wow game and play a free game, although I wanted her to see what it was all about.
I was playing skyrim as a thief for a while and then stopped to play a warrior, straight warrior and smithing and heavy armor. It also makes me addicted because I made my warrior look exactly like my wife.

i finally got to play last night for about 30 minutes.. squeezed in between when i got some housework done and when my wife came home.. and then promptly lost a lot of my progress cause i walked away from the PC to talk to her and some bastard Nord walked up and skewered my ass.

I'm playing mostly as a stealthy archer, but I'm trying to smith most of my own armor and create my own supplies if I can. I'm also falling back on some one-handed weapons whenever I end up in close quarters and I've been picking any lock I see.

well, a quick hint, the blacksmith that is in riverwood, or whatever the first town you go to is, has a restocked supply of iron and steel ignots. They restock about ever 2 days. You can take them without paying and without stealing so you can make some quick armor and such. Make leather bracers, since they take the least leather and make iron daggers since they take the least out of there. Don't forget to get training in smithing at the companions dude near the skyforge in whiterun, as you can train up 5 points in smithing, per level.
