It all depends on what we mean exactly when we say short or long.Those of us who prefer short over long toenails may mean just a little short,not extremely short that it's too painful to look at as if the nails have been bitten down & almost bleeding. What i mean by prefer short is, just the right length where the nails are cut just at the tips of the toes if that makes sense. The other thing i mean by prefer short over long is, trimmed over dragon claws.With a little length in the nail but trimmed, not too long where the nail sticks out like dragon claws or a monster waiting to pull you into the bushes with her feet, that is just ugly & creepy imo.Not sexy or feminine in anyway.

If she has short nailbeds or fat toes and is trying to grow them long in spite of it that just looks stupid.
If she has medium-depth nailbeds and grows them a little long and takes care of them, that can be hot.
If she has deep nailbeds or long toes, long toenails are kind of overkill.
The lady in eff's avatar is a real turn-off to me. Fake nails are ok on the hands but on the toes, it's just silly.

I have a Mexicana friend who when I finally saw her feet (she wore sandals one day) they were perfect, except she simply needed her toenails trimmed. In fact I think they were as long as the ones in that picture.

I would say the length of the nails in eff's pic are "run she's turning into a werewolf", which is a little above and beyond "extreme".
I guess if there was a litmus test it would be if you can get a firm grip on the toenail with your thumb and index finger, its too long. If you have to user your fingernails to get a good grip, its just right.

And just for the record, Myndi Fox has really short toenails but her feet are a TEN in my book! So she is an exception to my "short stubby toenail rule"...I would do almost anything for a chance to get at those feet.
And I'm not too sure how she would look would long toenails...so like I said it depends on the foot.
