I bet the last two are familiar!

I don't have any of their solo material, but I do have all the old Genesis CDs with Ant and Steve! I listened to a Philip Glass CD once that my wife had brought home as a promo from work. I don't remember the title, but the music was very minimal and repetitive. Not that that was a bad thing! It was unique. I've got a bit of Zappa in my collection. I suppose my favorite stuff is his output from the late 70's, Joe's Garage, and Sheik Yerbouti cheese.

Yup...

Most of that list consists of 70's stuffs.

I am surprised anyone recognized Anthony Phillips though!

I did like that short lived "Art Rock" movement in the 70's and early 80's when Yes, Genesis, Starcastle, Pink Floyd, and even Rush were writing Album Side Length Songs that told epic stories.

Tales From Topographic Oceans is Surreal, but it makes sense to me...

Now it has to fit into a music video to be "good."

A lot of my music collection has what a pal of mine described as "limp wristed 70's art rock." [Laugh]

There's an internet radio station I listen to every once in a while that has a decent "70s Prog Rock" station on it. Try this direct link to it!
http://www.live365.com/stations/haroldthebarrel

They actually played lots of Anthony Phillips on it and once I actually heard a 30 minute long Utopia song played in its entirity on it! Makes those yes songs seem short by comparison!

[Laugh]

I'm so diverse, it's almost strange...

I love Seattle grunge and heavy alternative

I hate anything from the 80's with a few exceptions like Metallica and Megadeth

I love traditional country

I hate most of the new pop/country songs

I like bluegrass

I like some rap and R&B

I love Jazz

I like most classical music when I'm trying to relax

I absolutely hate pop music

I love the entire Trainspotting soundtrack...

Has anyone noticed that the term Indie has expanded to included any reasonably decent non-mainstream music now days?

My musical core is built up from Jazz and Blues and Rock through the 60s, but I've been listening increasingly to the various subgenres of the catch all genre Indie lately.

If you like the Beach Boys try a band called Emporium. They have a hauntingly similar vocal style, and their music is very creative.

I also recommend Supergrass and Superczar to those who like Tom Petty

Tommy Emmanuel is HIGHLY recomended for fellow Chet-nuts and Kottke fans.

Fans of Jimmy Smith, Kenny Burrell, Scofield, definitely try out Soulive, Galactic, Lettuce, and Medeski Martin and Wood.

Please let me know if you've discovered any really good, really under appriciated modern music! I'm VERY interested.

I'm a classic rock and metal guy for sure: AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Guns n Roses, Metallica, Judas Priest, KISS, Journey, Rush among others

Definitely an old-school hip hop fan too, none of this modern BS: Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, Bone Thugs n Harmony, Ice Cube, N.W.A.,

I also listen to a lot of oldies, disco, and motown, basically anything you can dance too.
