I'm afraid that mine is a more mundane explanation. By profession, I am a musician, the guitar is my primary instrument. If I'm playing the song well, the song gets the same label.
To "tap" someone (or,I guess, something), is old vernacular for having sex with them/it. In essence, it's what I do at work or play.

My late wife used to call me a "couch potato" so since most people I know sit on a "sofa" (I don't know why they don't call it a couch or the other way around) and I live in the southern U.S.-"tater". Ta-dum "sofatater" wuz born! By the way Mommie Dearest gave me a major woodie with that description.

I was always curious as to what made you give that name for yourself.
The truth was "Mommie Dearest" didn't sound too enticing to me because I always have thoughts that take a turn towards an incest porn scene where a young guy worships his mother's feet, or that you want your fans to think of you as their biological mother. That's where the "Mommie" came from. The "Dearest" part was more of a sweet-loving, caretaker who really has her best interest in her sons.
I could never picture myself worshiping your feet, and then say to myself (or out loud), "Oh, yes, Mommy!" Then I would get thoughts about MY mother, and that the last thing I want in my fantasies.
After hearing your explination, not a lot has changed, though you clearly stated reasons that don't quite match my original thoughts about you.
Not that I was abused by my mother, but it gave my weird vibes about the name.
This is not to take offensively because only you knew where you were going with that name, and you can't fault me for having thoughts of my own.
This could explain why it's spelled mommie and not MOMMY.
A question to MD: Is this the first time you heard this from someone?
