I drive a '98 Acura Integra GSR. All I've owned were imports. I got into street racing back in 2000 but had enough of running from cops and driving hours just to find a spot to race. Now I've joined organizations that I can run my car on tracks against other drivers. Currently I'm in NASA and SCCA and will run my car at the end of the month at Willow Springs Raceway.

Wait wait wait...are you kidding me?! Willow springs?! I'm like an hour or two away from there! I live near the lax airport where do you stay at?

I've been dying to go to that track but I'm not sure what are the requirements, how much it cost to get in and if I need a helmet. Can just anyone go and track their car? Or do we like actually have to be in a race division and qualify and all that?

How's that gsr? My buddy has one of those! They are super nice! It looks all stock, what do you have in it?

I now live In Vegas, so I'll be driving to Willow Springs on the 27th and running my car on the 28th.

The requirements are havong a car that runs and doesn't leak oil, coolant or any fluid. If its safe for the streets, its safe to run. You don't need to be part of a racing organization, just sign up, inspect your car and pay the fee. Cost varies, but if you sign up now, you'll pay $95-$120 for one day.
Helmets are required but I believe they have some for rent. Yeah, anyone can track their car, it just needs to pass inspection, which is no leaking fluids, battery tie-down, working seat belt(s), and good tires.
You don't have to qualify or be in a division, just go to learn and have fun.

Yeah, my car looks stock which is the look I'm going for but the head has some work done to it. Camshafts, cam gears, valvetrain, intake, header, exhaust.

Let me know if you want to meet up. I'll be there from the 27th to the 29th this month.

Dayum super sick! How many hp you pushing? You did all the work yourself? And do you have the jdm front end? In the first pics its hard to tell bc its so far away.
I'm down to go to the track, if I can call off work. I've never been to a track, I've been dying to go! Ill let you know in a couple of days.

I'm at 184hp but next year my goal is to reach 200+. Gonna rebuild the block with higher compression and oversize pistons.

All the work was done by me except for tuning. I don't know how to tune. The car has the usdm front end. I used to have the jdm front for a few years but decided to go back to the round headlights. Looks better and stands out less to thieves.

To drive or to own? I prefer Jap imports. I like small quick pocket rockets. Like the shape/model of the Generation 5 Honda Prelude Vti-R.

To look at, I prefer the American classics. 73 Dodge Charger, Mustang 68 Shelby Fastback and the 68 Camaro.

Exotics would lie with Lamborghini Mercielago.

Subzero: What about those newer Mazda 3 turbo cars? Would you classify it as American or Jap pocket rocket? It has Ford written all over it but it is technically an import. Cool cars though.

This was my bitch back in England:

Same colour, so no difference whatsoever.

Yep. So how many of you, with all the cars mentioned above, could get up to around 70MPG on a good day? [Laugh]

In answer to the original point posted, I'd always favour imports. American muscle cars aren't made for regular driving. The only thing they excel at is drag racing, which requires only a fraction of the skill of proper racing and is boring as sin to watch.

Give me a Mitzi or Subaru any day over Mustang.

Yea,i agree the older muscle cars didn't turn for shit, but they have advanced quite a bit over the years. Many have ditched the live axle for independent rear suspension and mag ride shocks, better front links and weight distribution. However far they have come though, i agree with you an awd import would run circles around them on a road course. That being said,i like my smoky burnouts and waging the tail whenever i want ;-)

Wasn't too sure which car you were talkin' about so had to do a bit of research. I've seen a few of them around. Maybe due to the name and the turbo I'd say Jap. But IMO, by the look, it's a cross between a Ford Focus and a VW Golf.

I see Andy chucked up the car he drove in his homeland. This was the last car I had in New Zealand before comming to Australia. Mitsi Legnum. Jap wagon. (Not exact pic but the same)

@FootLongSub Zero, that prelude is great! that's my favorite year they were made, the other year had those huge tail lights and small headlights.
I am a huge import fan, whether it would be from old school stuff to new school. I am mostly a Honda person, that because i own one right now.
I have attached a few pics to show you guys what i am more into. That doesnt mean i dont like muscle though, but they have to be hooked up the right way.

Nice list of cars Raym3n. If I were to get a new car, it would be an Evo X. I'm also growing fond of the Genesis, even though it's a Hyundai. The body lines on it are sexy.

Yeah cool set Raym3n [Thumbs Up] .

I remember way back in my early teens. This was the car I wanted as soon as I got my licence. A buddy of mine beat me to it. Honda CRX
 -

I also liked the "Nissan 200sx S15", Mazda Rx7 (batmobile looking one [Big Grin] I think it's series 7), Toyota MR2 MKII, Honda NXS is a pretty cool lookin' car looks more exotic.

Those evo X are sick! But I still like the previous model bettter! And as for the genesis, I too have fallen into to the dark side. Hyundai has been making some nice cars lately and a lot of them are turbo! But my question is, how are the quality of the cars? Do they last? Cuz at the end of the day, they are still hyundai's.

Totally agree with all your cars! Especially the 200sx and rx7, perfect for driving sidewayz!
