A lot of music lovers here, so I want to see what your absolute favorite bands/artists are and why. Here's my top 5, and why I like them:

1. Led Zeppelin
Fav Song: Since I've Been Loving You
Love Robert Plant's voice and Jimmy Page's guitar. Can't go wrong with John Bonham on drums (R.I.P). The best band ever, in my opinion.
2. Mos Def
Fav Song: Definition
Favorite rapper ever. Has an almost organic feel to his rhymes, it comes so naturally and poetic it's scary. He weaves his rhymes and lyrics with an ability I have yet to see in any other artist, rapper or rocker alike.
3. Common (Sense)
Fav Song: I Used to Love H.E.R.
Maker of the best hip hop song ever continues to deliver. Like Mos Def, his flow comes so natural you cant help but appreciate it. Comes from the heart, not from the wallet.
4. The Doors
Fav Song: Riders on the Storm
Classic American band, from how they sounded to how they acted. Jim Morrison had an awesome almost creepy and haunting voice. R.I.P Jim.
5. The Eagles
Fav Song: Hotel California
Sound as good live as anywhere else. Owners of the best selling album ever. Cant get sick of their songs, be it Desperado, Witchy Woman, or of course, Hotel California.

Honorable Mention: Jay-Z, Styles of Beyond, Mr. Lif, Metallica, Depeche Mode, Mr. Lif, Foreigner, Bone Thugs N Harmony

Edit: Forgot some! The Beatles, Rush, Journey, ZZ Top, Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G., Aerosmith

There's mine, just wanted to see everyones insights on music, and maybe even try out bands or artists that I have not seen before. Always looking for good music. [Thumbs Up]

1. The Beatles
They were the first band I got into as a kid and have never tired of their music. They were so influencial to everything during their time and to musicians that followed. I can't pick just one favorite song.

2. Led Zeppelin
When I got older the Mighty Zep was the next band that I just totally immersed myself into. The four musicians complimented each other PERFECTLY in the studio and on stage!
Fav Song: Dazed and Confused

3. Rush
Rush was the band I gravitated to after I competed my Zeppelin catalog collection. They are all extremely gifted technical musicians and Peart is one of the greatest rock drummers ever. Geddy's vocals are grating on all non fans, but he does deliver the message in Peart's lyrics which is more important than the quality of his singing.
Fav song: Free Will

4. Black Sabbath
Tony Iommi is the guitarist that influences my own guitar playing the most. I consider Sabbath my "medicine" music. Whenever I'm feeling down in the dumps I put on Vol. IV and crank it. Very theraputic!
Fav song: N.I.B.

5. Iron Maiden
This is the band I have seen in concert (6 times) more than any other group. I got into Maiden back in high school (around '82) when they were an up and coming band. They had interesting lyrics that were influenced by novels, movies, history, rather than the usual "cock rock schlock" that was typical of most 80's metal bands. The singer Bruce also has a great onstage charisma that works a crowd perfectly!
Fav song: The Flight of Icarus

Mystik, I liked all your rockin' bands you picked (Doors, Zep, Eagles) but I'm not a hip hop fan personally.

BTW, look for two Doors albums released without Jim Morrison after he quit the band (and died of course). You will have to search hard in 2nd hand record stores. I own one called "Other Voices" and the other I don't have is "Infinity." Both were released in '72 I think and suck, but are needed for completist collectors! I think Ray Manzarek provided the vocals on those two.

Those are some good choices above. Here are mine:

1. Beatles - Hands down, the best ever. Enough said.

2. Radiohead - Some people are down on them since "Ok Computer", but I think everything they have done is amazing.

3. The Cure - Extremely influential and passionate. They are an underrated band with a huge and great music catalog.

4. Nirvana - They killed Michael Jackson and hair bands. They started the rock renaissance.

5. Deftones - Alternative metal band with punk attitude.

Somewhere I would like add Nine Inch Nails and a host of other classic bands like Pink Floyd, The Doors, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, and others.

(edit) oops, how did I leave out Tool?

1.Alice in Chains:
Favorite song: Down in a Hole.
Layne had an amazing voice and Cantrell's gutair work is a good as they come. I think if Layne hadn't passed we may have had a new AIC album out but Jerry's solo work is pretty awesome.

2.Pantera:
Favorite Song: Cemetery Gates.
What can you say about them except pure all-american 100% ass kicking ear splitting head banging metal. Sucks what happened to Dimebag last year.

3.Green Day:
Favorite Song: Jesus of Suburbia.
This is the band that got me away from being a diehard country fan. Tre's an amazing drummer and Mike/Billie Joe can hold their own as-well.

4.Stone Temple Piolits:
Favorite Song: Lady Picture Show.
Weiland has an amazing voice and this band really comes through with a great sound be it a slow or fast song. Hope there's another album after VR is finished/taking a break.

5.Foo Fighters:
Favorite Song: Monkey Wrench.
Dave Grohl is a mastermind, he's in or was in two of my favorite bands(Foo's and QotSA)plus was a part of the biggest band in the 90's. Taylor can go on drums and Chris and Nate are solid as-well.

Honorable mentions:

Mad Season
Faith No More
C.O.C
Black Label Society
CKY
QotSA
Reel Big Fish
Slunt
Cold
Prong
Clutch
Primus
Filter
The Distillers

Hey Adam X,

Cool to see somebody is into COC (you do mean "Corrosion of Conformity"?) and Prong.
I love their stuff, especially Prong`s first album. [Thumbs Up]

Ever listened to "Blast" (the SST band)? If not, check out their album "Power of Expression", its a bit like COC --- only better (in my opinion).
Great stuff!

Blast from the past indeed. I remember when an old drummer of mine used to parade around during the early 1990s wearing one of their Beg To Differ t-shirts and would frequently quote lyrics from that album in public places at inopportune moments and high decibel levels. As for the topic at hand, I sincerely doubt that I'd be able to come up with an accurate list of my top 5 favorite artists because there've just been way too many over the years who'd all have equal claim to those positions. The only constant in the #1 spot on any incarnation of my list would be The Beatles though, that much I know.

I recall having an old Prong t-shirt back in the early 90's. Funny though I never owned one of their albums. Only song I can even remember was something along the lines, "SNAP YER FINGERS SNAP YER NECK!!!!!"

LOL Paul, that was one of the lyrics that he quoted the most often! That particular track ("Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck") was off their 1994 Cleansing album though as I recall. He still uses that one on occasion... hehe

I am kind of like CJ (except I don't dress in drag!) I have so many bands that I listen to and love, picking a top 5 is almost impossible.

I will list the top 5 bands that I think are my favorites, either because of their live shows, or their personal influence on me growing up:

1) ZZ Top- I grew up lving next door to Billy Gibbon's and they have been friend's of mine all my life. I am a metalhead, but I love their music and think they are one of the best band's of all time! Meeting up with them on 10/18 for a show in Hollywood, Fl. and a little gambling at the Hard Rock Casino there.

2) The Misfit's- Again they are good friends, except for Glenn, and I think that without their music (and several other bands of that era/genre), that band's like Metallica and other early 80's metal bands would not be as good as they are without this music as an influence.

3) Suicidal Tendencie's- One of my all time favorite live bands!! Probably the best live band ever during the 80's and early 90's, if you are into that type of music.

4) Pantera- I like them, their music, and Dimebag was one of my drinking buddy's for almost 20 years. What a tragic ending to a wonderful person's life who always put his friend's first!

5) Metallica- Love their music and their live shows (except in the round).

Glad to see another admirer of Miss. Lee, Scabbia is amazing too.

I liked Orgy's new single but haven't heard anything else from the album yet.
