This is a hard one. There are so many bands I've enjoyed over the years. I gues I would have to break it down into 5 all time favorite bands, and 5 current favorite bands.
TOP 5 ALL TIME FAVORITES: Iron Maiden Venom Merciful Fate Immortal Cradle of Filth (everything except Nymphetamine)
TOP 5 CURRENT FAVORITES: Massemord Frostmoon Eclipse Catamenia Anorexia Nervosa Rotting Christ

I think it's really cool that there are so many Iron Maiden fans out here at Wu's. I myself was fanatical about Maiden back in the '80s and got totally caught up in the whole scene of collecting all of their albums, singles, picture discs, imports, etc, all on vinyl of course. hehe I also attribute the fact that I'm a musician today to the strong influence that Dave Murray's guitar playing had on me. He was the catalyst that prompted me to take the plunge and plunk down a nice chunk of change for a Fender Strat back in the day, and I've never looked back. I guess I'm just writing this because I'm pleased as punch not only to see so many Maiden fans still out and about after 29 years of the band's existence, but to see a bunch of them right here on Wu's Feet Links of all places. It warms the heart, ya know. Up the irons!

Amen brother Jack. I got into them when Maiden's #otB album came out in '82 or so. I was scared of them at first when I first saw the album cover because I was raised like veal at that time and was still going to Sunday School weekly. Shortly after that though things turned around when I began to think for myself and I never turned back!
I'm more into Smith's guitar work than Davey's though. Listen to some of the shit he does on Bruce's solo stuff with Roy Z. It friggen blows his stuff with Maiden out of the water!

LOL, that album cover was one of the things that appealed to me the most about them because it made me feel right at home considering what was going on in my life at the time. Incidentally it's been going on ever since. hehe

Yeah, I've heard some of the stuff that Adrian & Roy did on Accident of Birth and The Chemical Wedding and I'll concur that there's some excellent playing there. I think Adrian was a great player in Maiden as well, though admittedly I generally found Dave's solos to be more memorable and always found them to have the more interesting tone.

Lol Wus is mostly a bunch of Rock freaks. Im not particularly into metal myself, Metallica is as metal as I get, but its good to know that we all have a lot in common.

I can't tell you how many times I saw Carnivore at La'Mours in Brooklyn.
This little Top 40 ditty comes to mind:
Drool dripping out my tongue hanging south saliva flowing free My eyes full of lust my balls gonna bust give yourself to me Thirst I can’t quench c’mere you wench there’s something that I need
Carnivore I’m a meat eater Carnivore I’d like to meet ya Carnivore I know I’ll reach ya
The hunger I feel makes you a meal oh girl you sure taste sweet By my hair pull me there guide me to your treat Spread your legs I’ll seed your eggs oh, feel me deep
Chorus
Lick me she begged she pulled down my head I love to eat pussy A taste so fine like sweet april wine I won’t trade for any money Did you cum I eat and run I live for sodomy

I will list the top 5 bands that I think are my favorites, either because of their live shows, or their personal influence on me growing up:
3) Suicidal Tendencie's- One of my all time favorite live bands!! Probably the best live band ever during the 80's and early 90's, if you are into that type of music.
Great ST song:
Sometimes I try to do things and it just doesn't work out the way I wanted to. I get real frustrated and I try hard to do it and I take my time and it doesn't work out the way I wanted to. It's like I concentrate real hard and it doesn't work out Everything I do and everything I try never turns out It's like I need time to figure these things out But there's always someone there going
Hey Mike: You know we've been noticing you've been having a lot of problems lately. You know, maybe you should get away and maybe you should talk about it, maybe you'll feel a lot better
And I go: No it's okay, you know I'll figure it out, just leave me alone I'll figure it out. You know I'll just work by myself.
And they go: Well you know if you want to talk about it I'll be here you know and you'll probably feel a lot better if you talk about it.
And I go: No I don't want to I'm okay, I'll figure it out myself and they just keep bugging me and they just keep bugging me and it builds up inside and it builds up inside.
So you're gonna be institutionalized You'll come out brainwashed with bloodshot eyes You won't have any say They'll brainwash you until you see their way.
I'm not crazy - institutionalized You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized You're driving me crazy - institutionalized
They stuck me in an institution Said it was the only solution to give me the needed professional help to protect me from the enemy, myself
I was in my room and I was just like staring at the wall thinking about everything but then again I was thinking about nothing And then my mom came in and I didn't even know she was there she called my name and I didn't even hear it, and then she started screaming MIKE! MIKE! And I go: What, what's the matter And she goes: What's the matter with you? I go: There's nothing-wrong mom. And she goes: Don't tell me that, you're on drugs! And I go: No mom I'm not on drugs I'm okay, I was just thinking you know, why don't you get me a pepsi. And she goes: NO you're on drugs! I go: Mom I'm okay, I'm just thinking. She goes: No you're not thinking, you're on drugs! Normal people don't act that way! I go: Mom just give me a Pepsi please All I want is a Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me. Just a Pepsi.
They give you a white shirt with long sleeves Tied around you're back, you're treated like thieves Drug you up because they're lazy It's too much work to help a crazy
I'm not crazy - institutionalized You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized You're driving me crazy - institutionalized
They stuck me in an institution Said it was the only solution To give me the needed professional help To protect me from the enemy, myself
I was sitting in my room and my mom and my dad came in and they pulled up achair and they sat down, they go: Mike, we need to talk to you And I go: Okay what's the matter They go: Me and your mom have been noticing lately that you've been having a lot of problems, you've been going off for no reason and we're afraid you're gonna hurt somebody, we're afraid you're gonna hurt yourself. So we decided that it would be in your interest if we put you somewhere where you could get the help that you need. And I go: Wait, what do you mean, what are you talking about, we decided!? My best interest?! How can you know what's my best interest is? How can you say what my best interest is? What are you trying to say, I'm crazy? When I went to your schools, I went to your churches, I went to your institutional learning facilities?! So how can you say I'm crazy.
They say they're gonna fix my brain Alleviate my suffering and my pain But by the time they fix my head Mentally I'll be dead
I'm not crazy - institutionalized You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized You're driving me crazy - institutionalized
They stuck me in an institution Said it was the only solution To give me the needed professional help To protect me from the enemy, myself
What does it matter i'll probably get hit by a car anyway

I was in the same situation. But it is in part becauseof their sinister reputation and imagery that drew me to the band.
In fact, to me that is a crucial element to heavy metal, having a dark ominous mystique to the band. If the band doesn't have that, then as far as I'm concerned it's not really metal.

If you want to talk about scary metal, how about the first time you heard the song "Hell Awaits" by Slayer. That was pure magic.

Scary metal? Heh heh... I just bought a few CDs today: Gorgoroth - Pentagram, Dark Funeral's first EP and Hacked Up For Barbeque by Mortician. Bit heavier than what I usually listen to but I still love it all.
As for the top bands I guess the top five would be...
Children of Bodom - Love every second of them. They can be totally random ie. keyboard solo, followed by guitar solo, followed by ANOTHER keyboard solo, but everything is brutal and melodic. FAVE SONG - Downfall
Pantera - Don't really need to say much. Their later albums weren't anywhere near as good as their earlier work (hair metal days excluded) but it's incredibly difficult to fault Cowboys from Hell and Vulgar Display of Power. R.I.P. Dimebag FAVE SONG - Cemetary Gates
Dream Theater - Yes, they can play very pretentious prog metal, but they are definitely jaw-dropping as well. They're a lot softer than just about everything else I listen to but I can't help but love them. Some of their minimalist songs, ie The Silent Man, Space-Dye Vest, are also their most brilliant. FAVE SONG - Take the Time
Metallica - Had to put them in here, even though they haven't released a good album in 15 years. Of course, their first four albums were all pure thrash metal perfection. FAVE SONG - Fade to Black
Soilwork - Don't think all that much of their last two releases but I just can't resist A Predator's Portrait and Natural Born Chaos. FAVE SONG - Mindfields

I wonder how many times you and I were both in L'Amours at the same time! Too bad we didn't know each other back then, or else we could've had some drinks and commented on hot metal chicks' feet, or at least their steel-toed studded boots. That was always the one thing that sucked most about the metal scene, no sexy feet on display!
